Print Send Add Share. Notes General Note: Exosomes are nm extracellular vesicles secreted by a wide variety of cell types in the body. These vesicles originate from the endosomal complex in the cell and hence contain biomarkers specific to their cell-of-origin. Due to the presence of these biomarkers, exosomes have potential applications as diagnostic markers in diseases like cancer as well as therapeutics. A major challenge in the study of exosomes is obtaining an exclusively pure population of exosomes.

Due to their adjustable physiochemical properties and proven biocompatibility, iron oxide Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles are promising in drug delivery, magnetic resonance imaging and catalysis. In this thesis, we have utilized two types of iron oxide nanoparticles: i superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles SPION for targeted destruction of cancer cells, and ii poly N-isopropylacrylamide pNIPAM coated magnetic particles MNP for multistage cell separation.
